Riley's Ride

Almost a century has passed since Jack Riley’s body was brought down on horseback from the mountains in 1914 and buried in the town cemetery.

Jack Riley migrated from Ireland to Australia in 1854 and initially worked as a tailor in Omeo but found his true passion as a stockman working for the Pierce family of Greg Greg near Corryong, Jack lived alone in a hut high up in the hills of Tom Groggin Station for almost 20 years.

In 1914 Jack was found ill by his mates but died while they were bringing him to Corryong for medical attention.

Riley is buried in Corryong Cemetery.

Each year Riley's Riders commemorate his final trip to Corryong.
